EngAGE

Your input could bring about real change and lead to improvements that benefit the whole community. We are working across Rhondda Cynon Taf and will discuss the ideas and views we collect with other groups and organisations.

Meet the Community Connector

My name is Deanne Rebane, I am born and bred in the Valleys. I have a passion for Social Justice and tackling inequalities with the communities in most need of support.

My background has involved me working with communities to help improve their health & wellbeing. I worked for Citizens Advice helping with benefit claims and debt advice, before becoming an Action Researcher for Cardiff University. Here, I worked to help develop grassroots ideas from the community, with the aim of benefiting the health and wellbeing of their families.

Working with, and being led by, these communities we were able to design a new approach to adult education, one that developed skills and confidence, giving families hope for a better future. This Life Support Programme won the accolade of being the best Adult Education Programme in Wales, 2012.

Since 2014 my work has focussed on improving the health & wellbeing of Older People across Merthyr Tydfil and RCT, developing better links between Primary Care and working with GP Practices for them to better understand how the voluntary sector and community groups can provide local support for their patients. In 2019 I became the Community Coordinator with Interlink, dedicated to supporting people 50+ living in Cynon Valley, until moving to my current position with Age Connects Morgannwg.
