The new Government

Whilst many issues that we will see in the party manifestos are devolved to Wales, there are still areas that the UK Government has reserved powers for in Wales. These include justice and policing, financial services and pension regulation, most equal opportunities issues, broadcasting and telecoms.

We want the new UK Government to ensure their policies have older people at their heart, so that older people in our communities are not left behind but are celebrated and supported to meet their aspirations. We want the next UK Government to make a difference to the quality of life of older people and promote a positive view of ageing.

We believe that every older person in Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf & Merthyr Tydfil should:

  • Be protected from age discrimination whether from the public, public services or in the workplace.
  • Be protected from being victims of crimes including financial and phone scams.
  • Not have to live in poverty by ensuring benefits and pensions are protected and increased in line with the cost of living.
  • Be better protected through employment laws to ensure their age doesn’t stop them being offered jobs, or promotions, or being at a higher risk of redundancy.
  • Be able to live and celebrate who they are, whilst feeling safe and protected, no matter how many protected characteristics they belong to.
  • Not be overlooked and left behind in an ever-increasing digital world.

Let us all work 'Together for Older People".
